On the merits of creating freedom by forcing people to stay home on Sunday

You didn’t read the article. It also says:

Moreover, most entertainment and cultural activities are also available on Sundays. These include museums, cinemas, swimming pools, spas, thermal resorts, amusement parks, and even gyms.

Counterpoint: Everyone should have at least two days off work each week. There is no need for one or both of those days to be the same for everyone, much less a need to focus on Sunday.

Of course not, they should go to church.

Duh.

America tried that before, it didn’t work out so sell with weird patchworks of laws saying what can or can’t be sold on sundays. Even the deep red states abandoned most of these laws with notable exceptions being the sale of booze in many states and car sales being banned on sundays in Texas

Or “From my Libertarian point of view…”. Or the dreaded “I’m a classical liberal.” (a more highfalutin way of saying the former).

Sure.

Trolling like you’re doing here is highly problematic.

Was it a Sunday?

Thank you for linking that – I haven’t seen it pointed out, but this is the exact same nut! Some sort of bot for testing generation of badly informed opinions, perhaps?

Seems like it. It’s wild that this entire derail was started because grocery stores close in Germany on Sundays.
Seems like that “not a real town” thing might be Eurocentric as well. There are things other than hospitals and colleges that small towns were historically built around: grist mills, paper mills, textile mills, agriculture, flatware companies (looking at you, Oneida).

But @Tickyy continually fails to address the ridiculous discrimination inherent in their stance. They’re saying everyone needs the same day off so they can gather in groups and join the orchestra, but by “everyone” they mean “everyone except the nurses and doctors and bus drivers and train operators and restaurant workers, and…”
I guess by their reckoning, those people don’t deserve to join the orchestra? Heaven forbid we consider different schedules that allow people to coordinate days off with their chosen groups more easily. It MUST BE SUNDAY!!! Oddly inflexible mindset.

Well, I’m sorry, but you will have to schedule your illnesses and accidents with more care in future. Can’t expect healthcare workers to work on Sundays, after all! Yeah, that’s just dumb. We do what we gotta do.

United States need more religious hollydays. Just saying. Ask the Pope.

Given that it seems to be the MO , to just derail things and not answer questions.

I look forward to see how batshit wild the next derailments are going to be. Something like, all cars must have governors that limit them to 47 miles an hour, or people should only be allowed to have short haired cats, or all books must be printed only in trade paperback format with Times New Roman 14 as the font.

Until then, I suppose!

Weird flexes, @Tickyy but unlike the meme, very not ok.

Good thing no one ever crashes a car late on Saturday night necessitating life-saving care at a hospital. That would suck for the ER doc to stop suturing someone up because the clock struck 12 and the lights turned off. “Welp, it’s Sunday now, everyone go home before the Sunday police show up to arrest us for working.” But who’s going to arrest the Sunday police for working on Sunday? :face_with_monocle:

@Elmer: it’s a party! How can you tell? There’s definitely a piñata in the room. :smirk:
