I think you did.
When multiple people can’t tell if you would think something no reasonable person would, it may be time to reconsider the message you’re sending!
So close to getting it, yet so far.
You say everything should be closed Sunday, that no one should work, and that will help with loneliness, but you also want essential services to operate, so why shouldn’t they get the day off too? What is different about them that they are not part of society to the point where they should get off work like everyone else?
Or… would it be better to have a more flexible way to give people the time off they need?
None of this is good faith or has been good faith.
I think most folks here are aware.
An interesting point in that article is that stores in train stations and airports are exempted from the German blue law, presumably on the same basis that stores granted a government contract in American rest stops (like Chick-fil-A) should be required to be open seven days a week.
That article explicitly said that most restaurants in Germany are open on Sundays. Considering that this whole discussion began with you saying that restaurants should not be open on Sundays, that seems pretty relevant.
This thread reminds me of another conversation we had over the summer about small towns. I recall there was some nut who got it in his head that any population center under 1000 people was automatically a “suburb” even if it wasn’t built on the outskirts of any other town or city. It got forked into its own topic and the conversation got more batshit from there.
Weird hills to die on, man.
So single people have to sit at home by themselves every Sunday. Sure, that’ll help the epidemic of loneliness!
After more than a quarter century on the Internet, I’ve learned that any comment in a forum that starts with “this will be an unpopular opinion” doesn’t end well.
Shoot, it doesn’t even begin well.
Or “I’m not a racist, but…” And all it’s bigotry-of-choice variants.
Is it too hard to just say “yeah, I was wrong” or “I didn’t think of that”
I feel like humanity’s greatest philosophical discovery would be that just because something is right or wrong for you, doesn’t mean it would be for everyone. Except so many people are still badly failing on it.
