Ongoing coronavirus happenings

They know you can’t shoot a virus, right? I am sure they think the zombies will come for their toilet paper.

Lots of stuff falls out of statistical studies that does not translate into the real world. Still watching, but not convinced at this time.

Just FTR, he said in his daily podcast (interview format with a regional public broadcaster) this stuff popped up quite a while ago in his mail inbound, with disreputable sources, before it somehow got covered as research from the University of Vienna. The researchers there denied being involved. Since then, for some reason, this spiralled up to the French health ministry.

Interesting times, indeed.

There’s nothing wrong with David Dent, Jimmy Greaves and Ian St John.

Oh, you mean the other guy…

Virological assessment seems to be that contact infections are responsible for only a small amount of cases. The practical implications of that research are existing, but it is much more important to keep your distance, etc.

For any wondering how we got where we are, this is a pretty good summary and analysis:

What I want to know is, how long does the virus stay in the air? E.g., suppose you keep six feet away from people, then they move along and you move into the air-space that they’ve just left?

ETA: And, is it spread by breathing, or only by a cough or sneeze?

Recent data seem to point to “hang time” of roughly 2.7 hours. That’s a significant duration.

We got our college kid back this week. He was in 3 airports and on 2 airplanes.
The clock is ticking. 21 days? 27 days?
Whevs.

College Boy is confined to his room. I bring food, leave it at the door. We run all our dishes through the dishwasher, hottest cycle.

The distance-keeping is complicated in our 800f2 (74.3 m2) house, which currently has all exterior windows and doors opened. We have but a single bathroom. I am attempting to keep high-touch objects sanitized.

Sanitization post-showering is a tedious process, in part because at the end of it, I must also decontaminate myself and what I am wearing. I take care of my elderly mom (who lives in a different house) so it’s on me to try for due diligence.

Soap (I really hate bleach but may have to use it even if it is hazardous to mammal health) and water is soon to replace the spray bottom of alcohol-sanitizer. Bottles of 70% alcohol are very hard to find here in central Texas.

Thank goodness for that.

Our community pool has a composting toilet (see also) and in the off-season (right now), I am tempted to drag it back to our place, and use it in our (privacy-fenced) backyard. We are lucky that the weather is starting to warm up and being outside on the throne will not be a hardship unless it is raining. It’s like rough camping!

ETA: clarification re exterior; grammar

Master Strategic Tactician Genius Pelosi was handed the easiest win in the universe (“Just give people money! If Republicans try to stop you, tell people that the Republicans don’t want you to have money in a crisis!”) and she shut it down. Now it’s being championed by people like Mitt Romney and Steve Fucking Mnuchin.

Tell me again how she’s the smartest most finger-on-the-pulseiest person in the room. I dare you.

Trust me, I haven’t felt that way for a couple of years now. Before that, I wasn’t really paying that close attention.

She’s too focused on retaining norms and status-quo. Which means Trump is trampling all over her and her paper-tearing golf claps.
