WTF?

The Daily Mail should be burned to the ground.

If Grandma was leaving him anything in her will then I imagine he’s already garroted her.

Seriously, though, I’m just kind of appalled at the number of people in this country who don’t love their parents. What is that like?

My father is 84, and one of my three-year-old son’s favorite people in the world. Do Trumpies just not have families?

Via pluralistic.net, a good explainer on screening test sensitivity and selectivity, and why having an accurate idea of overall infection rate is so important:

It should be pointed out that sign is not a universal language. These signs may not be valid throughout the English speaking world (or elsewhere). I’m incredibly rusty, but I think these are ASL (American Sign Language, for the US and English speaking areas of Canada).

Not being sold, it now has to be said, for drinking, but for real disinfecting, meaning that this isn’t just scammy, but potentially murderous.

Recall of West Point cadets before Trump address creates logistics hurdles — and health concerns

Good write-up. The logistics include having the cadets arrive two to three weeks before the event to have time for quarantine and testing, after having travelled to West Point from all over the US, using every conceivable form of transportation. All while a Defense Department global ā€œstop movementā€ order remains in place for most military personnel for good reason.

Careful, that stuff is really easy to overdose, i.e. is highly toxic even in amounts you can easily reach.

Brazil nuts are a food which is really high in selenium. In one of our statistics courses, way back, we had an interesting nut to crack (pun intended), as a training task. Sadly I don’t even remember the details, only the question and the solution. There was a patient, and data on that patient, who had a selenosis. We were supposed to find out why. The solution was the person recently became a vegan and included lots of nuts in their diet - including just a few Brazil nuts. Turns out, only a few of them a day can poison you already. Less, if you have other sources of intake, of course.

A few means: with regular intake of three nuts a day, you can already exceed the safe intake for adults. (Sorry, could be paywalled for you. Can’t check right now.)

That said, average content in Brazil nuts varies considerably, so this means neither less than three nuts are safe nor more than three nuts are toxic.

And, for the record, selenosis seems no fun at all.

FYI, y’all and especially @RickMycroft: the UmbraXenu webpage you linked makes my antivirus itchy, it categorises as ā€œhigh risk websiteā€ and causes alerts and a block.

Title is, well not misleading as such but somewhat click-baity, the article is quite long and a good summary of the current state of things.
