Go Greece! Now if the rest of Europe can just stop fucking patronising them that would be great.

Yes I’m talking to you in particular “Frugal Fucking Four”. Blech.

The article attributes their success in part to to byproducts of austerity, namely being run by technocrats and the population being beaten down and compliant. That might just be German journalist spin on the situation, but if the narrative takes hold it will simply be positive reinforcement for the measures Germany et al imposed.

Also, from the article:

To recover, support will be needed from European partners, stressed Maria Demertzis

With all the major European powers in a dismal financial state, it is hard to see where the support will come from. If France is trying to rebuild a shattered economy and they start approving nontrivial funds for Greece, it will be a political gift to Marine Le Pen. Even Germany, which everyone assumes has infinite pockets and unlimited forbearance, needs to look over its shoulder at the rise of the professors party.

That was my take on it.

Everybody is going to struggle with recovery and either the EU ditches its fiscal rules or it’s toast.

Simple choice Germany.

Rich people in England give their kids like eight names?

Nah, Boris just has eight kids but saved the names for this one.

Health policy is a national concern though. The EU does not set it, nor does it exist isolated from national governments. The states didn’t want, or were too self absorbed to formulate, an EU wide response.

The story with copyright law will be interesting when we eventually find out what happened. It seems rotten to the core what with the " mistakes" in voting etc.

I don’t hope the EU fails as Ireland would be plunged into sudden and irreparable abject poverty.

I don’t even know what this ("“reception centre”) is in this context. You have privately-run high rises where you stash asylum seekers?

US federal policy has been for most of my life has been a disaster, but I must say that dissolving the federal government never once occurred to me as a “solution”.

Every time I see “young inventor in Africa” I know that clicking through will bring me joy.

You couldn’t do this in the US: no use of microchips, no way to interface it with your Alexa, no place for DRM.

clicked on the twitter, and it won’t load, then clicked on the link to the story, and it gave me a different story?

Here’s an alternate version:

Amazing… they can learn.

Maybe it’s time to start thinking outside the box. Sometimes things can be so thoroughly rotten that it’s easier to start from scratch than to fix the one you have.
