Tiffany Mofield died on April 29 at the troubled Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women after begging to be let out of a locked shower, saying “she could not breathe,” a fellow incarcerated woman who witnessed her death told The Intercept. Mofield had spent about two weeks quarantined in an infirmary after becoming ill with symptoms consistent with Covid-19, but she was moved out even though “she was clearly not better, as she was visibly short of breath and extremely lethargic,” said Michelle Angelina, who is housed in the same administrative segregation unit where Mofield died.

“She died right in front of my neighbor’s door and just diagonally from my door, about five feet away,” said Angelina, who declined The Intercept’s offer for anonymity to protect her from retaliation. “Many inmates are frightened for our lives and safety as a result of us witnessing Ms. Mofield die.”

Phone is not mounted, the frame is not fixed. At one point the driving hand is also waving about. Not that much traffic but you can see in the reflection they are right behind someone. Not really talking, more of a rage vent.
I was also conflicted. The message is on point, but the optics are unfortunate.

I’d love to see more people run away from 45 and his crew everywhere they go - until they give up on trying to personally spread the virus through public appearances. Some of his followers are bright enough to want to save their own skins rather than be in a room (or parking lot) with Typhoid T. I hope it upsets him to realize they don’t all want to sacrifice themselves to make him look good.

There are probably more cases like this that are not reported. It seems that killing prisoners and arrested suspects through intentional neglect and lack of necessary medical help isn’t limited to totalitarian countries.

Texas has long faced criticism for being one of the only states that turns inmates into targets for dogs trained to track escapees. The practice drew fire during the 1990 governor’s race after a state prison board member and spokesperson for Ann Richards’ Republican opponent joined in the chase with his buddies, whom he later sent souvenir jackets embroidered with the slogan “The Ultimate Hunt.”

While it’s unclear how often they occur, serious injuries have happened on the job. In 1983, the prison system paid $14,000 to two inmates who were mauled by dogs. One former inmate I spoke to who trained dogs at the Hobby Unit several years ago recalled breaking her tailbone after falling out of a tree. The woman, who asked that I not use her name, also said a coworker broke her leg after a dog pulled her to the ground.

Thank you for posting - I haven’t heard about it. This is so pathological I don’t have words for it. It’s obviously not there yet, but it seems like it’s going in the direction of cruelty WWII-era Nazi Germany forces reveled in.

the only homes being shown are those where no one is living there.

This was the only way I was able to get a home inspector. All of the requirements for selling my house were done before the virus hit (except post-inspection repairs, which could not be done because that work was non-essential). The inspector for my condo was only working on unoccupied places.
