Off by a factor of 10… 1% of 300 million is 3 million. So far almost 100k dead. 1/30 done. Long way to go if this has to play out.

They already updated with the right figure. If you go back to the original post you can see. I’m not sure why the update didn’t carry forward to the quote since they fixed it a long time ago.

But I’m rich and famous- the law doesn’t apply to me as well, does it?

His tweet claims that the Skye house is his primary residence. The article says his main family home is in the US, and he was living in New Zealand with his family. So which is it? If he is lying about what he did that is doubly bad, but if he was genuinely traveling back to his primary residence than it isn’t so bad, especially since he was coming from a place which is practically free of the virus.

Traveling on planes with stops at US and UK airports nullifies that advantage.

“Nullifies” is a little strong here, but it is true that there is some chance that he picked something up on a flight. Still, for me the issues is if he was really traveling home, as he claims. Most countries, including the UK, have made it clear that travel prohibitions do not apply to residents returning home.

In fact, the UK has been telling citizens in places like Brazil to come home. I think national pride had prevented them from telling citizens pretty much anywhere else that they’re better off were they are.

My guess is that there is a legal primary residence (where he says he pays his taxes: choosing the UK over the US still has pretty major consequences), and the place where you “primarily” spend your time.

Yeah, that’s probably true in this case, and his tweet was probably a bit of misdirection. However, as he has a biggish fan base here, I’m not inclined to accuse him outright of telling porkies.

In any event, if he flew from a low-Covid region to the UK with a layover in a US airport (and not a night on the town), and then drove himself to Skye, and then self-quarantined (no grocery stop?), it was probably pretty harmless from an infection POV. That’s a pretty serious drive after a long flight, so his probability of killing someone on the road was likely higher.

As expected, poorer countries are suffering far more and having more difficulty with control. Of course, some are also taking the Trump approach and just denying the whole thing. As an aside, I had no idea how bad Quebec had it!

How so?

What she describes is horrible, but not that surprising in our society. At 9:59 : “Nobody cares because they are all minorities, we are in the fucking 'hood. You know? and that’s just not okay.” To defeat this pandemic and prevent future ones, we have to change our society. The current system is just criminal.

He was trying hard to give the impression that he was simply returning to his normal home, which if false is misdirection designed to deflect criticism. He probably doesn’t treat that house as his home except for tax and voting purposes; the article asserts that his main residence is in the US and that he has been living in (not visiting) New Zealand. If the article is wrong then his tweet is not misdirection, hence my use of “probably”.

I don’t have much of an opinion either way, except that on the one hand people should be allowed to return home without criticism, on the other people with multiple residences should not be allowed to pick and choose which is their primary residence depending on what is most convenient for them.

Hmmm, what could be different this time around? It boggles the mind.
Of course the presidential “Who cares?” might be a factor, eh? “Trump of the tropics” indeed.
