Indeed. That site has some problems. Cities like Lake Oswego, Oregon City, and Salem are way more diverse than it has recorded.
I will say that Oregon has a much lower African American population than where I grew up in the Midwest or where I went to university, but is way less overtly racist than either. I think one factor is that there is a lot of non-Black diversity. There are fairly high populations of Asian Americans and Latinx Americans in the state, even in rural areas. That said, there is a lot more improvement to be made. I’m encouraged by the young people who aren’t putting up with racist shit anymore.
