I have a form of synesthesia that causes words I hear to be translated to letters and words that I read almost directly behind my eyes like text. I also experience many random smells. I always assumed they were a form of synesthesia but whatever they were linked to was so subtle that I couldn’t pick up on it. I have wondered if the smells were associated with sounds that were not words, like birds chirping or water flowing.
