Pandemic sourdough: the first loaf with my new starter

It puts the dutch oven into the oven.

If you grease your cast iron and heat it to 500f it will smoke. It will also season. It will season while you bake bread in parchment paper. You will probably not taste it.

You will smell it.

Your cast iron should always have a thin layer of fresh oil on it. Whatever sort you prefer for your cast iron. I would not suggest automotive oil as it has additive that will do more than give you flashbacks.

I started my first starter this morning.

I had a bag of REALLY OLD Bob’s Red Mill Whole Wheat Buckwheat Flour in a bin of baking stuff, and used that. It came out kind of chunky (1 cup flour, 1/2 cup water) so I added a little more water.

I have the jar, and a bowl with a batch of with-yeast no-knead bread, in an oven with the door ajar, so the light bulb warms it a bit.
