Paul Manafort sentenced to 47 months in prison in Virginia trial, sentencing in Washington DC case next week

Don’t we hang people for treason?

Do we need to start putting up a guillotine in front of the Judiciary building? Or would it look better by the Washington monument??

A) Manafort, despite being an unbelievably corrupt piece of shit, probably doesn’t qualify for treason. It’s an incredibly narrow offense, that you pretty much have to make a serious effort to qualify for.

B) He was being sentenced for tax and bank fraud, specifically, neither of which is worth executing people for. He’s got another sentencing coming up before Judge Jackson, for his other crimes.

C) Speaking personally, I am for guillotines as an execution method, if you are going to have capital punishment. It’s foolproof, pretty humane as execution goes, and it makes it 100% obvious that a human being is being killed here, complete with gushes of arterial blood. That might stick into the craws of the people coming to observe the executions, which I consider a bonus.

History indicates that this is not the case.
