The recording industry in general is a dirty business. Long before the OGs of hip hop were involved the even more original gangsters of the Italian and Jewish Mobs had their fingers in the music business.
That’s before you get to all the creative accounting that ripped off artists.

… No, not really. I’ve always assumed payment for airtime was the standard, even when I didn’t know it was illegal. Even knowing that it’s illegal, I still assume it’s the standard.

The business of music and corruption are peas in a pod.
Once you try to sell creativity you essentially die a little more for every dollar you make (beyond a wage)… perhaps the good die young and perhaps a rolling stone should age gracefully and gather some moss… let the world know that their millions of bucks are owed to African Americans that never were party to their riches…
