Remember, Star Wars is not our future, but supposed to be in the past. Unless they mention it in the novels or comics or elsewhere (non-canonical, ahem), we don’t know if there is any connection between humans on Earth and the humans depicted “a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.” Maybe humans came to Earth from Tatooine and Coruscant, and the first wolves or canines they encountered were on Earth.

While the responses have been thoughtful and welcome, I still didn’t know if there were dogs in Star Wars or not!

I really don’t remember any in the movies, but wookipedia tells me Luke had one as a child. Lando, too. So there we go, I guess.
