People who voted for Trump knew their shot at the elites was fired through the guts of their neighbors

I dunno. I’m pretty much proud of the US warts and all and I get along just fine with my Japanese, Indian, etc friend and coworkers who feel the same about their countries.

That far I agree with you

no idea.

the two letters before look like “ts”, to pronounce the word I see only two possibilities: it’s either <whatever>t-Skröte (I don’t think this is an actual word) or some construct like <whatever>t-Kröte with the “s” as connecting element (“Fugen-S”, no fucking clue how to translate this).

a cursory search reveals no further hints but the guy running the museum looks like a fine specimen for German Gemutlichkeit

The problem with all single-issue parties is that most people do not care enough about single issues to vote for them, and the ones who do tend to lack a sense of proportion. Greens in general seem unable, for instance, to understand that 95% of the population is not going suddenly to stop driving, washing clothes, heating or cooling their houses; and that even if they wanted to reduce energy usage, the resources are not there to achieve it quickly for more than a small subset of the population. And then there’s the whole anti-science thing, where they don’t seem to understand that the Green Party only exists because science has pointed out the problems with business as usual, and that Greens therefore should all be educated in science so as to have a meaningful input into the discussion.
Politics has to be the art of the possible. It is, of course, possible that the result will be the near or total extinction of the human race. But it is Abrahamic thinking to believe that is somehow important. We’re just another species on the planet, and others have gone extinct before. If we can’t fix our self-destructive urges, the answer isn’t fantasies about somehow populating the Solar System to escape the mess we made on Earth; it’s that we have failed to deserve to continue to exist.

They certainly needed to be emergency - looks like they could easily kill both baby and mother through bacterial transmission.

This, entirely. The folks super thrilled that Reince Preibus got the nod as COS are ignoring that he’s been set up as the sacrificial lamb (or one of many) to be discarded when Priebus tries to tell Herr trump some variation of “the votes aren’t there to pass [xyz]”. He hasn’t released his returns and he’s not going to in the future. All the FEC conflicts of interest he’s generating will result in exactly Jack Shit because the GOP is nothing more than a bunch of sycophants who seem to think they’ll be safe under trump’s rule (even though they won’t be).

I see lots of handwaving about rules, norms, regulations, policy–tRUMP CARES NOTHING FOR THESE THINGS AND HE WILL IGNORE YOUR PUNY ATTEMPTS TO REIN HIM IN.

For fuck’s sake, Pence is already trying to hide his own emails:

Not sure how this could’ve worked in the campaign, but it worked when I tried to explain my support of Sanders to my own mother: “No, not like Stalin and Mao, like Sweden and Denmark.”

and everyone loves Ikea and Lego!

(Denmark gets a worse example every year. they still have a very strong social system but the governments since about 2000 are fishing on the right. at the moment Venstre (literally “left” though the party is conservative and market-liberal) forms a minority goverment and leans heavily on the support of even more right parties. “Danes First” is a fair(ish) summary of the policies)

From the New Republic:

This is sort of important. We need to focus on the right targets if 2020 is to be won.

I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m getting a problem loading page when I click on the link.

In fact, the whole site seems to be down?

Re-label that device a Transvaginal Holysound and the arc of human progress looks…well, like we still have a lot left to do

Hm. Okay, just me then, for some reason.

I’m aware that governance in Denmark has been on decline for quite some time, but it still serves as a useful example to Americans for helping them understand blended economies.

And yeah, who doesn’t love Swedish Kmart?

Americans can always be relied upon to make a mess of it when they try to do English history/mythology.
