Wake me when they come out with Eau de Mimeograph. Now that was a wonderful smell from childhood.

I’ve always liked the smell of printer’s ink, the real pre-digital stuff. But while I’d like to smell it, I wouldn’t want to smell like it.

as a retired printer, who still dabbles in printmaking on the press in my studio, I tend to smell of ink and/or solvent most of the time
(that is, on the days I don’t smell like a fishmonger)

The photo shows the woody version which I think had a sublte ink note. It’s the silver version of that bottle that smells the most like ink. I used to have both the brown and the silver one. The silver one was quite nice actually, a scent with very little similarity to other perfumes.

I don’t know if this is prone to the same type of fail associated with ‘book scents’. There are several perfumes out there that purport to smell like libraries, books, or ink and paper. I haven’t done an exhaustive test, but so far the results have been ‘meh.’

If you do manual labor the “odor of productivity” is a lot more rank smelling.

I like to call it “vinegar perfume.”

This is why the lumbersexual trend was more about the look.

So, it’s paint smell, why not the “toasted paper” smell? And what’s next? Gas station? Dental clinic? Photo lab (yuck!)?

Yeah, bring the retrofuturism! Spurious hydrogen leaks! Aging faux meats. The insect dogfood factory next door.

Sulfur and Sodium battery repair shop scents. Algae volume control and bakeoff desiderata. Particles from green mid-rise maintenance mulching the overgrowth.

Encre Noire is rubbish after the reformulation. And no, it never smelled like ink.

I might consider a mimeograph fragrance. I always thought it was somewhat pleasant.

After reading the comments on this post, I decide that Boing Boing commenters spent their youth sniffing glue. :grinning:
