Perpetual motion device unveiled at CES

I think your aspersions centered on mental health issues are way off base. He obviously is invested in these ideas and experiments, and wants to spread the word.

I don’t personally buy into his ideas, but I have a lot of respect for this kind of dedication to fringe physics. If I found him at CES I’d be right there talking to him, making clear my deep skepticism. I might not give the time of day to those thousands of other exhibitors, few with an idea they can call their own. I also doubt that Smirky would hold up his end of a conversation with any conviction.

They do over 300 shows a year, each airing for about 4 hours. They’ve been doing it for decades, and their cast of characters spans the delusional, religious zealots, charlatans, and occasionally legitimate scientists.

Nearly 99% are plugging a book they wrote; many or most are self-published.

The best episodes are the ones where they turn the crazies loose on the scientists to answer questions.
