Police response to protests against police brutality with more brutality

Concealing one’s badge number should be grounds for instantaneous dismissal. What better way to announce that one is about to do some crimes than to make it harder to be identified?

My wife and our two oldest kids were there from 4 - 8. Wifey said the real issue was there was no one really leading or organizing anyone else. So the masses kind of grew and tapered like a traffic jam.

As they got to the car and headed out, she said the rhetoric got louder and had begun to devolve.

Turns out there are some police officers who aren’t acting stupidly.

Turns out de-escalation works!

But it only works if you do it.

To do it, you’ve got to know (a) what it is, and (b) how to do it.

The majority of US cops haven’t a clue - it’s not how they’ve been trained or what they’ve been trained for.

Remove all their guns (I know, fantasyland) and they’d very fucking quickly learn how to de-escalate.

Brilliant!!

(How does that ‘needs more likes’ thing work? Never did get the hang of it.)

To paraphrase an old saying: when the only tool you know how to use is a baton, then every problem becomes a face to smash.

Thank you.

I’d like to find out how to do those kinds of things too; some things on BB are a mystery to me, like how to write ■■■■■.

I wonder how many times that cop told people he was about to search "if you have nothing to hide … "

It’s almost like the sequence was deliberately out of order. What are the odds?

Thanks - done that.

But, as @Wanderfound has pointed out, in many places that was just a photo op. The police went from taking a knee to tear gas in less than an hour.

Thank you. I’ll try to remember that.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said late Saturday evening that a video of an NYPD car driving into a barrier with protesters behind and knocking them over was “upsetting.”

“I wish the officers hadn’t done that.”

This is exactly the kind of strong, unequivocal response to police criminality we need from our leadership right now! /s

Sadly that’s probably all the walk-back we’ll get after he spent most of the day before that blaming the protesters for “surrounding” the cop car.

Another one I’m already tired of:

It’s like they took the same writing course that is (evidently) mandatory for all police.

I knew they shouldn’t have put Bane in charge of public safety.

totally disagree. blm was going strong and gaining good traction by the end of obama’s second term. trump has been a distraction and an impediment to real reform. and has emboldened white supremacists, and hurt immigrant families in immeasurable ways.

this is not like breaking a few eggs to make a cake. real people are getting hurt, and have died, that didn’t have to.

and there are 100,000, more every day, people dead from a virus he helped spread by his actions and lack of action.
