Indeed. We’ve got several of those wildfires going on around the Denver area right now.
Forgive the phone-quality shot. I was out on my evening bike ride.
Here’s a crazy moon picture from our recent trip to Wisconsin. It’s over the lake in front of us. I’ll put lake pictures too.
In this one the moon looks whiter but the reflection is orange.
Grill time
Our hosts have a pup.
For some reason I hadn’t seen this category and this post. So forgive the lateness.
In June I finally crossed “crossing the Alps on foot” off of my bucket list. Beginner level, sticking to the valleys and the Brenner Pass, but still a weeklong journey from Innsbruck to Bolzano (I had done Munich to Innsbruck already last September). And now I am addicted to going on long pilgrimage style hikes.
Impressive! Congratulations. Do you stay at inns or tent along the way? I do recall your September posts but not your accommodation choices.
I stayed at inns, as a shower in the evening was a must. Also, watching Italian television was just what I needed to prepare for meeting my Italian friends in Trento (Trient on some maps).
The part I can highly recommend for the view is the Ketschweg/Sentiero delle castagne (Chestnut trail), a 90km long route through the Eissack/Isarco valley with amazing landscapes.
A short set of photos from the same wilderness area near me. My mom wanted to to go. It was really to hot to be out. Birds are elsewhere, except some gulls ducks and the local birds of prey. We saw a kestrel feeding.
You can see how dry the brush is now, compared to earlier posts (see May for when all this was green.)
Funny story…this went on fire the next day. Not a bad fire, but it cleared out some.
Actually, I don’t see that I captured the brown biomass. But it was extensive.
Is this the Sepulveda Basin area? I’ve always wanted to check it out.
Someday.
Yes, it is. I really like walking through the wilderness area / bird sanctuary.
A pleasant walk through the woods, though there are a lot of fallen trees after storms earlier this summer.
Yes, the Wiki article is about the place whereabouts I took these photos, but the translations are all wrong. Looking up the etymology, the name “Kučkuriškės” is probably derived from “kučka” meaning heap, pile or shoddily constructed hut. “Kittens” would be “kačiukai”, which at least has some of the same letters in the same places, but I have no clue where the machine translation could have gotten “little girls”.
Ahh! Thanks for the informative reply.
(So much for my imagining that kittens/little girls might be a local name for a rock formation or a series of hills or something…)
No idea why the movie clips. Doesn’t look much like Western Illinois!
I spent my freshman and sophomore years in Galena, and consider it one of my home towns. I was sad when we moved to Iowa, and always wanted to return.
Well, that is, until I moved to Germany and decided to spend my adult life as an expatriate.
Well, Galena! Who doesn’t fall in love with Galena?
Last sunday, for the first time in years, I rode a bike. It was a nice ride, almost 6km, except for the fact I realised I am in a dire need of aerobic exercises. When I arrived at my destination, my legs were killing me.
While I was riding, I heard this rock music coming from a group of trees, then I found this charanga, a type of small marching band, rehearsing by the sea at Aterro do Flamengo. I took the opportunity to catch my breath while listened to them playing.
The sky is this color because of the smoke from the forest fires that are burning the forests and savannas in the North and Center of Brazil.
Beautiful scenery!
We visited the coast last week and though it was overcast, it was lovely. It was also a nice break from the hot weather in the valley.
There were a LOT of jellyfish and jellyfish chunks washed up on the beach. Some were so clear that it looked like someone had scattered crushed ice on the shore:
The first picture is very good. What a beach!
