Very cute kitten! But I really worry what’s going to happen when they grow up. So many of those behaviors are cute now but won’t be when the kitten is 16 lb.
Why the specific weight? I absolutely regret teaching. Princess Ravus that it was okay to walk on me

My wife lets all of our cats sleep on her. I watched Mrs. Seizureless kitty make biscuits on her the other night for quite a while, my wife never woke up.

Funny thing is, they all know sleeping on me is not okay but sitting next to me is okay. They get in bed with me but sleep off to the side.

They ain’t so dumb.

Gremlin is pretty hefty, but I haven’t formally weighed her yet. I have to tell you, the biscuit-making is pretty painful and sometimes I just have to tell her to get off of me. And then there’s her habit of reaching out to grab you when you get up or walk past – with claws out.

She’s really a sweetie though. Sort of like the big, “slow-development” kid who doesn’t quite realize their own strength. :man_shrugging:

My wife - Good morning ma’am.
Would you please step out of the sink so I can finish brushing my teeth?

The Cat - Excuse me? :eye::eye:

My wife sleeping today wearing her Christmas present. Notice it’s a little puffy.

Yup, kitty is nice and comfy under the sweatshirt. She goes in from the neck and then turns around. She really does let them run the show.

I think this is Mr Lapwing, the vice president of the southern regional branch.

This is a southern Lapwing, The Brazilian popular name of this bird is Quero-quero , the onomatopoeia that represents its call.

These animals are very territorial and spend the day patrolling the area around their nest. When the chicks hatch, the Southern Lapwing becomes even more vigilant and may attack anyone it deems a threat. Biologists say they just swoop over the trespassers, but I never wanted to risk getting closer, they seem willing to do anything to defend the nest.

He’s very pretty!
Different bird, but around here it’s the barred owls we need to look out for with the swooping. Seems like every other year or so a pair will nest along a somewhat popular x-country ski trail and people end up with their hats knocked off or worse. We stay away from those areas!

An adult southern lapwing. A Lapwing’s nest. An unsuspecting person.

The chicks in that first video remind me a bit of plover chicks I’ve seen :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
I listened to a talk about birds and bats last night which was overall quite depressing but somewhat optimistic (you know, they’re all facing insane challenges, but also, smart people are working to reduce mortality,…) but one weird fact stood out. They were talking about birds as an economic driver and how many people feed birds, and then how many people watch birds and go on trips or buy stuff to help with that hobby, and beyond the dollar amount, which I can’t remember, the speaker said, “more people watch birds than play golf.” That’s rather heartening.

I started this bird watching craze a few years ago. My wife took me to a series of lecture at the Rio Zoo and I found myself enjoying the subject. I confess that I didn’t care much and thought that people who watch birds were at least eccentric like those cartoon characters who suffered at the hands of Woody Woodpecker.

At that event, one of the speakers talked about how Costa Rica was profiting from eco-tourism. People from all over the world traveled there to observe and photograph the birds, especially the elusive Quetzal.

I agree with you. It’s great to see that people are changing their attitude towards the environment. Nowadays it is common to see reports about people who used to cut down trees in the Atlantic Forest or predatory fish for marine animals. Today these people have realized that they can profit more from tourism. The former nature wrecker became a local guide, his wife started offering accommodation for tourists and so on.

My cat has been ignoring all the noises I’ve been making for an hour. I start that second video and she startles awake and comes over to see if maybe there’s a bird hidden in my phone. Which is extra hilarious because there’s no way she could have ever heard that bird’s call before in her life.
When she figured out there were no birds, she went back to bed. with her back to me and glaring with her ears
