Mine goes back to every summer of my childhood. We had a neighbor with a shed that was elevated about one foot off the ground. Skunks were trapped and removed from under there multiple times. We had another neighbor who had a lot of feral cats in her yard. My father was not a fan of air conditioning, so we slept with the windows open at night when temps were about 70-80°F. The yowling would wake us up, and the smell would keep us from going back to sleep. Closing windows might lessen the odor, but make the sensation of melting into a puddle even worse.
I am not happy. This guy showed up a couple weeks ago with an injured paw. We haven’t been able to catch him but his limp has almost gone away so that’s good.
We are going to catch him sooner or later to get him neutered.
He follows Mrs. Feral around.
We’re not sure it’s feral, he meows and hangs out when we’re outside.
Her name is Baby, she’s only 9 months old, she’s due in one to two weeks, and her owner wants to re-adopt her after she’s delivered and the kittens are weaned and she’s spayed, she just couldn’t handle the kitten part. We had one like this before. It’s really nice knowing she has a loving home to go back to.
She’s really sweet. It’s quite a change from our last firecracker, Rocky.
Wish us (but mostly her) luck!
ETA another photo, top view, look how preggers she is!
Since I was a child I have loved Tom and Jerry. One day I was startled to hear one of the characters calling the cat Thomas. It was a shock to realize that Tom was just a nickname. Today I am amazed that Jerry is a nickname of Gerald, the mouse!
They were originally called Jasper and Jinx, in the very first cartoon!
You’ve reminded me of this short fiction by Steven Millhauser, that I liked a lot. You might enjoy, if you haven’t read it
(They don’t seem to offer the option of a gift link that I can post, but if you want to read it and hit the paywall, I might be able to forward it to you)
