Yesterday was very hot as usual. I don’t think the ruddy ground dove was molting, but I am not sure what was that behavior. I saw a lot of birds doing it. Is it a way to cool off or to get rid of insects?
It could be either of those things. I was asking based on what I’ve experienced as a one-time parakeet owner. But fluffing their feathers out away from their body seems to be a go-to behavior in birds, for all sorts of reasons.
Let’s hope it doesn’t indicate a health problem!
Yes! These doves are very cute and the parking lot where I took the photos would be a sad place without them.
mr. cardinal at the feeder for some sunflowers. so tiny compared to the other birds that come around (jays, woodpeckers, dove)

So my local coffee shop, Annie’s, is so dog-friendly they have the “Dogs Welcome, People Tolerated” sign. We are there every morning. They have a display for Easter in the window. The young lady serving decides to show Baillie a wind-up toy rabbit, hopping along the floor. Of course, after preliminary investigation, it is now his. Annie’s staff, bless them, is cool with this.

I have a question for the birb experts…
I have been feeding a pregnant roaming cat I believe to be a cousin of my indoor cat Pastel, putting dry food out in a tin in front of my door to ensure the health of her future kittens. The birds have discovered it, and have been pillaging over the last couple of days. I realize it’s not “made for them”, but how harmful is it? Should I try an alternative form of getting the food to her?
As long as they aren’t eating tons of it, it shouldn’t hurt them. Some people even put out dry cat food as a nutritional boost for the birds in the winter, in moderate amounts.
Hope you’ll post pics of the kittens when they come!
It’s been cold and rainy by Tijuana standards the last few days, so I haven’t seen her. I’m hoping she’s okay. She’s very sweet. If kittens show up, I will certainly do so.
