House wren enjoying the sun.

This goofy little neighborhood cat likes to climb up trees near people walking, like it’s going to attack from above. When you walk on, kitty runs to the next tree to get into position.

Here’s something I thought only happened in old cartoons: a cat stuck high in a tree waiting for rescue.

Edit:
Oh, I was wrong. You Said the cat was climbing and going down. Is It a kind of feline parkour?

When we run along the marsh there are red winged black birds that follow us most of the way. They swoop down pretty close and then fly ahead, wait for us to catch up and then do it again.

I swear, after a certain point they hand us off to a different bird. I suspect we’re running past some nests with babies.

So run of the mill bad news or really bad news at the neurologist today.

She either has a brain tumor or the first cluster of seizures were a stroke and the seizures after that are due to damage from the stroke.

According to the doctor the stroke is the better prognosis but the only way to be sure is with an MRI for 3 grand. The treatment is the same and without the MRI the only way to know for sure is time.

We do have all the tools to manage her seizures now and a doctor we can consult with should we need more help. If we’re only managing seizures for the next few months it’s a safe bet it was a stroke. If she starts to have other non seizure symptoms it’s a tumor.

Either way, still not an imminent death sentence.

The doctor was great, got right down on the floor with her to examine her and spent more than an hour just talking to us. He never made us feel rushed or guilty about not wanting to spend the 3 grand.

On a side note, their covid policy was awesome, no one allowed in without a mask, you waited in your car until they were ready, met at the door and taken to the exam room. All paperwork was done online before the visit and payment was processed in the room with all documents emailed. They really figured out how to do it right.

She did need a bath because it was an hour each way in her carrier.

I got some slow-motion (1/8) vids of three hummingbirds in the Ozarks last week. Two females and a male ruby-throated

This one shows what might be these tiny birbs mating in mid-air (around the 0:24 mark):

ETA: They could be two females though. It’s hard to tell in the video

Keep the volume up for the alien sounds of slowed-down calls of vireos and parulas:

Several others here, here, here, here, here, and here.

Sorry, last one for a bit. This basket houses all their toys, she just sat staring at it so my wife dumped all the toys out thinking she was looking for a particular toy. Nope, she wanted the basket.

I was all happy mombun moved the babies. Until I realized she moved them into the raised garden bed. An even worse spot! One got caught in the strawberry bird netting. Which is now decidedly higher off the ground in several places. I told them to tell their mum she has got to move them and we have many spots purposefully left wild with long grass and bushes and sticks for exactly this purpose!
Got some great pics tho. The lizard is actually about 3 inches, including the tail. The bun is about 4 inches but further back.

2 more goslings

The little guys got trapped in the fountain for about 5 minutes. They eventually got the strength to climb it.

The bunnies had a falling out about 6 months ago. We’re not sure what it was about, but they were in full tornado mode. Blood was flying, urine spraying, and I wound up with a huge wound while separating them that required stitches.

We’ve been slowly re-bonding them. They’re finally sitting more or less peacefully together, and they were grooming each other just before these pictures. So far they’ve been well behaved on the washing machine. We’ll be moving them to a small pen in a neutral space and see how that works out. Hopefully they’ll be okay, and we can increase space, then finally let them free roam in the house together again. (We’ve kept them isolated on different floors during their separation, Bunnies get jealous if one has something the other doesn’t.).

So adorable! Maybe they like your strawberries? Our buns appreciate a fresh strawberry treat every so often. (But not as much as a banana. Nothing beats a banana!)

Do buns like strawberry? I didn’t know. That would explain where some of the berries have gone. I know someone is noshing on the carrot plants. I’m just hoping they survive the grazing
It’s a bad spot because I am in the plants nearly every day harvesting things and checking for bugs. Not a peaceful place to live! I would also prefer they eat the dandelions and grass we let grow rather than my little food crops

ETA while I’m asking questions- can bunnies drink from still water? We have this water bowl the drip irrigation fills up for us elsewhere. We did it for the birds and the bees but bunnies would explain why it goes dry so fast

Yay, friends again!

Our buns like strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and grapes. They also like broccoli, cabbage, carrot greens (more than the carrots themselves), kale, mustard greens, spinach, almost all herbs, and sunflower plans (they like the seeds, but aren’t excited about the shells). Bunnies, like people, can be finicky eaters. They grey bun is less enthusiastic about berries than the black bun, but he’ll eat them eventually.

They don’t like tomatoes, cucumbers and squash, peppers, or beans. I plant “sacrificial” cabbage in our garden to attract bugs and wild buns away from the other crops I want to keep safe.

The wild buns love grass (thicker is better, they don’t like the young, thin shoots), dandelions, clover, some tree leaves, and other green things they can find. Our gardens are rare delicacies for them, same as dandelions are a delicacy for house buns, which is probably why they are raiding your garden. A cheap way to deter them is to spray the garden with lemon juice. Rabbits hate the smell, and will avoid it (we use it to discourage our buns from certain areas and activities).

Rabbits will drink from standing water. They are probably thanking you for providing them a water dish, since it can be hard to find water at times.

Thank you for the info! Lemon juice would be easy. Maybe I need to plant some carrots I don’t plan on eating in the flower beds. We already have parsley in one, for the swallow tail caterpillars. I also now have an excuse for mustard.
Probably need to add more water bowls. Our drip lines keep getting nipped over there and maybe more water would help. Plus we aren’t in the depths of our crushing central Texas summer. The buns might need more

My pleasure! Poor little guys must be thirsty if they are nipping holes in your lines! It could also be squirrels or mice: they can all smell the water. They’ll appreciate the easy water. I didn’t know about parsley and swallow tails. I’ll have to plant those in our flowerbeds and the pollinator garden. Thanks for the tip!
