Having to write his “memoirs” with one of those was one of the complaints Breivik had when he sued the Norwegian prison system - it apparently slowed his handwriting down unacceptably much and thus kept him from expressing himself.
Seems like a good opportunity to discuss the inalienable nature of human rights. When a human murders 77 other humans, maybe that’s an acceptable time to isolate him from the rest of humanity. He should be allowed to express himself as much and as expeditiously as he can (speed being of the essence to proper self-expression), but he should lose his right to access the rest of humanity in any form or format. Go scream yourself hoarse in a soundproof room for eternity, is what I would like the judge to tell him.
I can think of other reasons why a flexible pen would be popular in prisons.
It is important to act like a git in prison. Nobody shivs a git.
