My first thought when I heard about this on the radio was “Dick move. I hope that at least they used a can of Campbell’s.”
BP or not BP’s website evinces some level of creativity, but I don’t think that the can of soup rises to that level. Perhaps I am biased, and had I bothered to read the artistic statements of Just Stop Oil, I would be swayed by their genius.
Ah well.
So it was a protest about the National Gallery and the sponsors it courted, conducted in the National Gallery and directly attacking the sponsorship by Shell.
Culture Unstained and BP or not BP were also part of the groups that led to the end of the BP Portrait Prize at the next door neighbours.
Was it good glue in the art museum? Just leave them there.
If they want to become an installation, why stop them?
The groups activism continues…
It’s a whole thing now.
Unfortunately for the climate protestors, I imagine that the glue and the solvents used to remove it aren’t especially environmentally friendly.
Nyce: Is there anything that you wish people better understood about what you do? Or that you wish I had asked you about?
Keller: We try to be sympathetic and understanding. We’re all on this Earth with them. I wish the protesters would understand that—they may not see it as doing harm, but they’re doing harm to museums that are actually an ally of theirs. For example, a museum might have to add $100,000 worth of additional security now for the next 20 years because it had this incident. And that’s money out of the educational program, which may not be as important to them as saving the Earth. But it is pretty important to saving the country. I wish they would recognize that.
In addition to the oil protests the methane protestors are pouring milk.
I hope these people realize they aren’t changing anyone’s minds. They aren’t even bringing attention to a situation that nobody knows about but should.
