I once adopted a timid kitten who was terrified when she coughed up her first hairball. She howled in distress, coughed, howled again, and so on.
All I could do was sit down beside her, petting & consoling her until she made it through the ordeal.

My dog, as a puppy, used to leap up and look, with great alarm, at the spot where he was sitting (and/or his butt) every time he farted. I’ve never had a dog do that before. Now that he’s much older, he… still does it, but weirdly inconsistently, which makes me wonder why some farts are alarming and others aren’t.
