Didn’t it seem intentionally designed to weed out those that were not serious abut the science? Was it perhaps a holdover from the pre-Internet days, when people couldn’t get easy access to the information that came after?
Do you want to make lots of money? Do you want to come home months later realizing the money wasn’t worth doing it again?
Are they offering you more than you would make here? Does the job require you to supply 7+ years of personal information to the US government?
Anyone else leaving at 6:00am tomorrow morning to drive their kid to volleyball camp in the middle of the next state over? Isn’t it lucky that I have a flexible work situation?
As all I have is the initial contact email how would I know yet? Are you referring to a security clearance? Yeah that’s another strike against it for my liking isn’t it?
Should I suppose we won’t know then? Wasn’t I just speaking from experience, being in tech. and having certain countries come up with recruiters?
Don’t we all? I mean if they doubled what I was getting at my last job it would be quite tempting as I could pay the bills at home and have a nice allowance while living elsewhere and that is kinda nice isn’t it?
Aren’t some things worth a Donalding?
No. Absolutely not going to Kuwait.
Have I had friends who did this and came back divorced and bitter? Have I had friends who came back flummoxed at how fucked up their society is? Have I had friends come back wondering at their missing time from their kids and realizing it wasn’t worth the money?
Yes, yes, and yes.
I’ll put it to you this way: I wouldn’t go at ten times my salary and if I could take my family with me.
Only double? Don’t you get concerned when money isn’t an object for these things? Don’t you think there’s some other real catch that makes it have to cost that much?
Anyone else waiting at home patiently so they can have the AC guy tell them that their blower motor isn’t working? If it wasn’t only two years old and under warranty I would have just done it myself, wouldn’t I?
Isn’t that sort of thinking why I am waffling about it?
Consider telling them it’s not enough money., if they come back right away with triple your salary would that mean something weird is up?
Aren’t you much more direct than I am (and therefore, give better advice)??!!
Anyone else drive 350 miles before lunch?
(Never realized before how unforgiving that seat is!)
Well, did you know not many are aware the lighting industry had a huge upsurge in people for the various buildings that were going up? You couldn’t have known I ended up knowing a lot of people going over there before 2008 only to come back in 2010 and all said they regret it, would you?
Doesn’t that make a lot of sense?
Now aren’t I wondering why the people I know who’ve done the same thing (in Kuwait or other Middle Eastern countries) are all engineers, since that’s not my industry at all?
Not today, but didn’t I used to drive 400 miles at once, with stops for gas and toilets along the way, on a regular basis? Wouldn’t I find it uncomfortable to try to do that now?
Wasn’t my only stop when I got there, during which time I walked quickly a total of 3 miles (there and back and there again between buildings on opposite sides of the campus) and used the toilet twice (once when we got there and once again just before leaving, because that’s always a GOOD IDEA)? And didn’t I only go through less than a half tank, so no stops at a gas station were required? And so wasn’t that a total of 6 hours (out of 7) sitting down on what turned out to be a much harder seat that it seems during shorter jaunts? Don’t I wonder how I used to do those long drives when younger, too?
How am I supposed to tell when my Kindle is finished charging? Why don’t things come with proper instructions anymore?
Haven’t I easily done that while on a road trip? Especially if there are goodies like twizzlers in the car?
