Nah, sometimes babies are jerks
Anyone who jokes about a mixed-race newborn being a chimpanzee in fancy clothes is a racist…does that help?
There you go, you’ve made the same mistake, ‘the assumption that anyone who’s over 50 etc.’, you can accuse individuals but when you apply the attributes of one person’s behaviour to a group you’re on a slippery slope. Should I assume that aĺl young men in London are going to stab me?
You obviously didn’t carefully read the comment to which you responded. There’s been a lot of that behaviour in this topic from some users, although most of it has been wiped by the moderators.
At what point does a racist comment actually BECOME racist? Does it only apply to people who are wearing klan robes or a nazi uniform? Or do we still need to wait?
Ignorance (which I doubt anyone half-conscious person working in the MEDIA could possibly be about such things, given how this is such a well-worn trope that is STILL used today, in the US and in Europe) isn’t an excuse. maybe he didn’t mean it and what he said in his apology was sincere, but that doesn’t mean it’s not racist. Racist isn’t defined by intent only.
The real miracle is how you managed to nail both of your own hands to that cross by yourself.
A reminder for the waiters
I wish I didn’t need to keep quoting this, but some people won’t learn and will only act once the death camps are fully operational.
I dont know if Baker is racist. He has been around for quite a while and I dont remember thinking he was obvious he was a racist before. Quite the opposite. He is a quick witted, working class boy made good, and I am sad for him if the truth is it was a social media related accident.
I did think the pics of the mother and grandmother with the Queen were great!
It’s empirical.
“Let’s see if this unknown substance is flammable. Applying heat…”
Right. Which is why I have a hard time thinking he was a racist. He has been around for years and I have listened to him on the radio for years. I can be a bit “ahem” sensitive to racist comments, and he never triggered me. Social media is a dangerous thing and its easy to make a crass mistake.
Who know, maybe a whole bunch of BAME people are gonna come out and say how he has constantly abused them. But color me surprised.
I dont know if people have seen the tweet in question. I do know that he has no time for the Royal Family.
We know the Black people are the real racists and Whites are the real victims.
Honest.
I hate to point this out, but fully functional death camps were not the breaking point. Can’t really prove a counterfactual, but had the territorial integrity of other power not been threatened and/or violated, they may well have considered the camps an internal issue and looked away. The war was never about shutting down the camps.
Ooh. Vintage.
I know
Unfortunately I have seen quite a few liberal and socialist identifying people who try to claim that bigoted actions are of no consequence until governments start killing people.
Yes.
But the UK is definitely less racist than the US now. And frankly i suspect it was less racist then too, its just i didn’t get the chance to observe both places.
I think its also true to note that London was more violent than NYC in the 90s.
Well you’ll be joining my philosophy and ethics committee then, eh nudge wink?
So this tweet was ok by you? You’re happy and comfortable that no harm was done? We’re all just confused innocents thrown about by the maelstrom of today’s media?
Please be clear and affirmative. Yes or no. Don’t blither, obfuscate or mealy mouth.
Let’s see precisely where you stand.
I remember similar arguments being made when American soldiers in Iraq adopted “haji” (a term of respect for someone who has undertaken the pilgrimage to Mecca) as an insulting term for Iraqis.
Some people even approved of Hitler finally solving that pesky “Jewish problem”. They were just made that he marched on Poland… and then if the Japanese had never bombed Pearl Harbor over our embargoes…
So I’ve lived in both the UK and US and the thing I take from this is, this comparatively minor racial incident was a massive deal in the UK and caused national upset. In the US, this kind of thing goes on all the time and barely raises an eyebrow.
In any given month, just look at the number of racially motivated comments or arrests in the US that are barely acknowledged and just get forgotten about. Sure, UK light entertainment might be a bit boring and dated, but I think it’s a bit rich to say that American culture is superior
