Please be “Rodeo with a Shotgun”

Here in Sacramento we have KDEE and KZHP, plus the UC Davis station, KDVS. All of them wonderful for hearing things not on the corporate playlists.

Absolutely valid. The airwaves should belong to the citizens, of course. (With licencing and allocation through the FCC.) While I’ll joke about “why is this still around?” I’m more complaining about the four media giants that own 98% of the airwaves than actually about the medium.

Yeah, fuck those guys. And also, sometimes, even NPR can act as a bad actor… I’m thinking of my alma mater’s radio station, that was a well-regarded college radio station for a few decades that the former president of the university just handed over to GA Public Broadcasting (it has GPB programing from like 5am to 7pm now!), often the exact same shows that are already on the city-wide public radio station.

BREAKING NEWS: There’s more evidence for the “format change” theory.

I’m not sad about it, although Canadian content regulations means any Canadian rock station will inevitably play way, way too much Metric for my liking.

My radio is pretty much permanently on BBC Radio 6 Music.

One of their DJs is a certain Tom Ravenscroft, who is definitely a chip off the old block (ie, he’s John Peel’s son)
