Say what? Isn’t figuring out how to get enough calories to stay alive basically 85% of what “survivalism” is??

Desperate and hungry for views?

The production staff and the person in question got off lightly. Very lightly. We like our birds very much.

Having said that, NZ is a close-knit country, and we like to hold a grudge — hopefully it follows them (even across borders).

Everyone was furious at DJ Dimension. Most of the country wanted to see him deported.

We are still pissed at France after their state terrorism (bombing the Rainbow Warrior boat, killing one person), their attempt at playing innocent, and then turning into a right bully once we caught two French Secret Service agents.

John Davy, former CEO of Maori Television, whom lied on his CV (and got fired and found guilty of fraud), still has it follow him back in Canada. I cannot find the news article (apparently he has been trying to purge all trace of his time in NZ) that he got fired from a later job, for lying on his CV, when a New Zealander “dobbed him in” to his employer (he omitted his time at Maori Television and his firing).

I suspect this was a matter of one of the show’s producers telling him to eat it for the sake of controversy.

I would not encourage anyone to actually kill and eat someone from the camera crew, but trapping them to extort food is a much better option than this, and I am guessing would be just fine for ratings.

Also, it takes weeks to starve if you have access to potable water. I’m pretty sure no network would let a participant die on camera, so they had plenty of time to find some edible plants.

Creating unnecessary drama is basically 99.9% of what reality TV is, so I can’t say I’m surprised.
