That was my first though upon seeing those “yoga pose” photos!
This is really enlightning!
I’ve often wondered how one develops the kind of flexibility and insight necessary for the office:
When you take on a certain perspective, the truth becomes entirely fundamental!
You’re confusing shock with surprise.
It’s a huge fucking shock.
Yeah just because you see the whip coming down doesn’t mean it’s not going to sting.
I think it is worth noting that as long as manchin and sinema are there kneecapping every action, the democrats dont actually have control of Congress. I understand the frustration in the democrats inaction, but they literally need a supermajority to do anything meaningful. They can’t get rid of the fillibuster. Do you honestly believe they would be only doing yoga and reading poetry if they had to power to fix this?
It’s obviously fiction but sometimes moments like this remind me of the book ‘The Stand’ where the good people are trying to do the right thing even though they are disorganized as hell. I’m not sure the venn diagrams have to be overlapping to such that degree, but I try to take solace in it. Some people in power like Mr. Levin cannot always rise and roll up their sleeves.
Oh. Yoga. I thought he was shoving his head up his ass.
Don’t worry- When the chips are down and things get serious, I have absolute confidence in the Democrats ability to issue a strongly worded letter asking the Republicans to reconsider.
Democrats are playing baseball.
Republicans are playing Calvinball.
Democrats don’t want to look like they are breaking norms or decorum so they try to be the adults in the room. This keeps them from going hard on Republicans or taking risks because they don’t want to look bad or get down and dirty. When Democrats screw up they take one for the team.
Republicans don’t give a fuck. They will do whatever they want, and double down if anybody calls them out. They never face consequences which only emboldens them further. There is no bottom of the barrel, and they will stop at nothing to ensure their power structure stays intact.
Democrats are never going to get ahead when all they are doing is playing defense against an opponent that’s not following the rules or even playing the same game. It’s long past time for Democrats in power to start getting creative, stop treating Republicans as friends and colleagues, and start going HAM to beat those fuckers at their own game.
Yeah, especially all those democratic lawmakers who are women of child bearing age. They clearly put their own fund raising OVER THEIR OWN BODIES… /s
I promise you that very many Democrats in office do in fact give a shit about women’s human rights and aren’t just asking for funds to line their own fucking pockets. The reality is that the current system we have requires fund raising, and frankly, I’d rather as much as that as possible come from the voters rather than corporations. If you want to argue that the system should be changed, then that’s one thing that many of us would certainly agree with you on. But if you’re calling out all the Democrats who are running and need to raise money to run their campaigns in the current system, then it’s ignoring a whole bunch of reality there. Marx said:
Men make their own history, but they do not make it as they please; they do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past. The tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brains of the living.
In other words, we don’t get to just ignore reality and substitute our own. This is the system we have to work within, and yes it needs radical change, but that won’t happen IF WE KEEP HAVING THE GOP RUN SHIT…
I think everyone here is aware that the Democrats don’t have the votes in Congress to do anything meaningful right now. That doesn’t mean we want to see our Representatives doing yoga, reading poetry, and singing fucking Kumbaya in response to this. I want to see the anger and rage I feel right now reflected in their words and actions.
Plenty of them are. Once again, it’s men blind to their own privilege who are doing stupid shit like this.
You really don’t want to hear what I think of the Democratic Party this week
The problem with asymmetric combat is that the side willing to abandon mutual norms always has an advantage.
I guess that’s what I’m frustrated about. republicans are out there being fascists but people are blaming the democrats when they haven’t been given the power to fix this. This is all because of mitch mcconnell who stole Obama’s court nominee (because people let republicans control the senate) and the people who elected trump who nominated 3 far right lying justices who voted for this horrible decision. I mean we did a lot getting democrats in control of Washington… biden literally got a supreme court pick in already although it’s just a replacement for another politically left justice. But without manchin and sinema the democrats don’t have much power to enact legislation. The American people are at fault for the apathy (and of course the right wing enthusiasm from people who actually want this). Blaming the democrats when the only way to fix this is to take control of state and federal elected positions seems counterproductive.
Exactly. I got three messages yesterday from my local, county, and state Democratic committees. None of them were asking for funds. They were announcing planned protests, providing resources for more information, asking for volunteers to help with midterm campaigns, and reminding people about what’s at stake in the upcoming election. My state had record turnout in the primary. Those voters fighting against minority rule and oppression have to get rid of the pols who want to restrict and/or eliminate our rights. From Jan. 6th involvement to SCOTUS activities and decisions, most members of the GOP have made it clear what they think of laws and the will of the people. I hope that this November the majority will give them a lesson they’ll never forget.
I think that’s just a compulsive centrist trying to navigate a political landscape whose shifts they think it would be ‘partisan’ to acknowledge.
Sort of like the tiny toads whose ears are too small for them to jump properly; only not adorable.
So they stand in the middle of the road like a deer in headlights because they don’t want to seem partisan…
Er… did you mean legs?
