They didn’t dare burning real books. They burned book in effigy. I think It was just a political stunt, but maybe, after probing their districts, someone will burn for real.

Hypatia wept.

The undereducated (and proud of it!) burning books to prevent those who want to be educated from reading them.

The death throes of this ignorant, repulsive, bloated, corrupt, cruel, uncaring, short-sighted, devil-worshiping party are increasingly dangerous, destructive, and profoundly evil.

How in the everloving fuck can they possibly think they’re the good guys when they pull straight-outta-the-nazi-playbook shit like this?

I’m sure the Nazis were sure their actions were right and that they thought of themselves as examples to follow.

Part of a logical progression for fascists, ending where it always does.

I think there are some people out there craving for a huge bonfire. And there are also some people dreaming of their profits selling matches and kerosene.

Basically there is no way in hell anyone can engage in book burning and not look like a neo-nazi piece of shit.

Republicans don’t even give a crap about the optics of it anymore. They have embraced fascism, period.

It is only fascism If It was bred in Fáscia di Combattimento. The rest is just Alt-Right. /s

They were plenty of moral justifications for doing what they did.

Today no one seems to care anymore. Like a football championship final, it turned them against us and either you win or lose the game. In the case of society, I have the impression that it is no longer important to refrain from playing dirty. Some poeple think that more important than winning, is defeating the “enemy”.

Fascism is a designation of origin. It’s Sparkling Authoritarianism! /s

That’s the problem. There are a lot of people drinking this spirit and getting intoxicated. The more they drink, the more their brains get numb and they cannot see, or care, If they are acting like nazis.

Books are just the beginning.

But… but… but… don’t you see, by reading books, you are oppressing the know-nothings! /s

They’re not actually burning books. Those are empty boxes.

The pictures and video show two Republican state senators incinerating a pile of empty boxes they said symbolized “the woke liberal agenda” at the 2023 St. Charles GOP Freedom Fest. The flamethrowers were auctioned off to attendees.

They will move on to the real thing soon enough.

And those bomb threats that resulted in the evacuations of Chicago libraries were just threats.

Are you also going to argue that no harm was done there because there were no actual bombs?

Just saying that Republicans seem to do enough bad stuff that we need not make things up that they’re doing. Facts matter.

The difference with your bomb threat example is that the bomb threats were accurately reported as bomb threats (not for example as bombs). In this case, these bozos burning a pile of empty boxes that they said symbolized “the woke liberal agenda” is being reported here on boingboing as book burning. Which it wasn’t.

… they can burn The Turner Diaries if they want

Other unwanted books go in the blue bin :recycle:
