“Responsible Gun Ownership”

Crunchy.

I think that the expression “constitutional carry”-- the marketing scheme used to push these lax gun laws-- engenders the belief that ones actions are above any mere law. Also, fondling your gun in public makes one into a patriot.

Admittedly off-topic: thank you for introducing me to this baffling and amazing concept, which I now have to seek out.

Officials in the city of Eudora, Arkansas, said they are enforcing a mandatory emergency curfew after struggling to stop what the city’s mayor described as a “rampage of shootings.”

The city of fewer than 3,000 residents has recently experienced more than 10 shootings, according to Mayor Tomeka Butler, including one which killed a local resident on Dec. 24. Facing increased crime, few actionable leads, and limited police resources, Butler announced the “civil emergency curfew” on Dec. 27.

The curfew applies from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. with exceptions for both employment and medical emergencies, officials said.

Not all such cases have ended peacefully. In 2015, a woman in Colorado Springs called 911 after seeing a man in her neighborhood with a gun. The dispatcher reportedly explained to her that Colorado was an open-carry state. Within minutes, the man went on a shooting spree, killing three people.

It happened just after the clock struck midnight on Sunday in Port Richmond.

“I said 'they’re trying to kill me,” Mary Gallagher said with a chuckle.

Gallagher was on her front stoop, ringing in the New Year with her bell, when she felt a sharp pain on her shoulder.

“Felt like I got hit with a brick or something. It was really, oh, it was a heavy thump,” she said.

She went inside her home on the 3400 block of Salmon Street, where she’s lived for 50 years.

Already in pain, and crying, she took off her sweater and then made the startling discovery: a bullet fell to the ground.

“I bent down because I was crying and going bananas,” Gallagher said. “And I seen the yellow thing on the floor and I picked it up and I looked at it, and then I really went bananas.”

Police say it was one of two suspected celebratory gunfire incidents this weekend. A bullet went through a window on the 300 block of S. 58th Street. No one was hit there.

In Virginia — a historically permissive state for gun policy — it is a misdemeanor to “recklessly leave a loaded, unsecured firearm” in such a way that it could cause injury to a child under the age of 14.
The statute is designed for situations in which a child harms another child, experts said. In this case, the victim was 25 years old.

So, as long as the kid shoots someone over 14, there is no crime committed. WTAF?
