Revealed: the results of the 2022 Sight and Sound Greatest Films of All Time

And at least a few cineastes are getting pissy about wokeness. It’s been rapidly shooting up the poll over the decades, #173 in ‘92, #73 in ‘02, #36 in ‘12, so its arrival at the top may be unexpected, but not impossibly unlikely.

Haven’t seen it myself, although I’ve thought Akerman has made some outstanding documentaries.

I played it at a film festival in 1984, and the men who worked with me on the festival were all quite pissy about it at that time too. They were happy as clams about all the male directors I had scheduled, of course, but why would I waste everyone’s time with a movie about a housewife, made by a woman no less?

So glad to see it’s finally getting its due.

What kind of film festival?

At the time, just a normal one. After I left, the guy who took over (one of the ones who was pissy about having to sit through “Jeanne Deilman”) made it into a specialist type of film festival, but it started out as a general mix.

I don’t want to get too detailed in a public forum, as you can imagine! We can PM about it.
