My family vacations growing up were road trips across the Midwest and South, and were usually related to my dad’s work. My next opportunity to travel was grad school, where I actually traveled quite a bit because of conferences and project work. The next ten years I traveled all over the US for customer visits and more conferences, and I’d try to work vacation and family time in with conference travel. The last five years or so I’ve had a job that requires next to no travel, and I don’t like traveling on my own dime, so I’ll only travel to visit family. I have a new appreciation for how little and how infrequently the average American travels.
