Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka dead at 45

I already knew about the genesis of the furry hatred (ironic, considering we run the gods thrice damned internet), but in light of the shenanigans with his marital partners and the kids, I’m only going to say this:

He deserves neither praise or hatred, only to be relegated to oblivion- to be forgotten and his name spoken no more.

Previous generations signed up at 16 to shoot at nazis, I signed up for a comedy forum whose members low key stalked me for almost two decades.

Most recently, he somehow found out through the grapevine myself plus some members of my cult reported the tweets that literally got him banned from Twitter.

I had returned to the forums while in a domestic abuse situation. The culture had changed in a positive way, IMHO, but the main thing dragging them down was Lowtax and his hangers on.

When I found out he was literally beating his partner, I ended up messaging someone I had a (playful) feud with – I wished them well, told them slapfights should stay online, and that I regret giving a single fucking dime to support the lifestyle of an abuser.

I was especially hurt since he made a big stink about dealing with pain issues – someone I knew also struggled with chronic pain, and I was sympathic that it can make you, for lack of better phrasing… cranky. So I took money out of my meager emergency fund to support the forums (and by extension, him).

Honestly, I’m not sad he’s dead. When a friend pointed out the news, my response was “he’s an abuser, and he’s in the ground with Jeffey Epstein now, I’m going to go get a cortado”.

Like a lot of people, I flirted with being a reactionary when younger, as a response to trauma, abuse, and feelings of alienation. But I also worked tirelessly to help women, POC, and and LGBTQ folks get internships, job and professorships not… persistently used my influence and wealth to harass, degrade, and abuse the weak.

I sometimes am too edgy in my humor, but… it pains me people like him get a platform and wealth, while others, well intentioned, can struggle.

Anyways, SA was a huge part of my late teens / early 20s. A goon from state advised me on grad schools. Another gave me an intimate portrait of a local FFRDC’s insider threat program. A third strongly advised me not to go to law school (sound advice).

Other goons did things like do revenge porn on a friend, threaten to kill me (online), and in once instance (at Lowtax’s urging possibly) physically attacked me IRL.

I’m sad his kids will be without a dad, but he was truly a horrible person, not a troubled soul who just wanted people to laugh.

Truly an Internet icon.

He absolutely was as much a piece of shit in real life as the worst of them on his forums.

I largely kept clear of the site, but I remember he was a hero-figure of sorts in Lemon Demon’s eBaum’s World Dot Com. Readers may be advised not to click, because you may never get that song out of your head; such is the way of Lemon Demon.

And now I’m thinking of the Watchmen Funnies Photoshop Phriday.

So is Jeffrey Epstein, doesn’t mean he’s a good guy

It’s traditional, a hallmark of many an online death announcement. And some of them were true!

That’s another site that, TBH, I avoid like the plague for much the same reasons as SA. (and while I’m here, the entirety of X chan (4chan,8chan,etc.) and for the longest time, reddit of all places.)

It’s a good moderation system for the users. They have to want to care if they’re there in order to be there. They have some skin in the game to behave.

There’s an incentive for the moderators to be poor moderators. Every time time someone handed out a lolgoofyrandom ban to grift another 10 dollars the moderation team is taught that the rules don’t matter so much and the smarter users know exactly what happened.

Because displays of weak power breed contempt for authority, anyone with a nice bank account is going to be tempted to act like an asshole just to show the mods how little they care about threats against their 10 dollars. For these users such a system is less than nothing as they might even be inclined to follow rules when simply asked nicely.

Yeah, that’s when the PermaBans kicked in. You don’t get to just buy your way around it, and they actually seem quite good at rebanning anyone who they figure out is an alt for a one of those accounts.
