Jeez, impeach him just to tie him up and stop the bleeding.
He is the one that indicated he did not want to wade into the politics. Yet rather than speak clearly to the points, he in fact waded into the politics.
If he was “smart” he would realize that his strict by the book treatment was vulnerable to gamesmanship by con artists, which is exactly what happened. While he was very competent and strategic in referring cases to other Districts, he was clearly out of his element in managing the presentation of his report. He could have easily defeated attempts to spin his results by speaking with clarity which did not conflict with his neutrality.
He’s failed, rather spectacularly.
Even if he’s removed from office the only law enforcement agency I can actually imagine bringing criminal charges against Trump is the Southern District of New York. So Federal prison is almost certainly off the table and any other form of incarceration is extremely unlikely. On the upside if he faces state charges for his financial crimes Pence won’t have the power to pardon him.
This is a very important point that’s getting little to no attention. He’ll still be subject to his security clearance, but he won’t be obligated to follow the direction of the administration or its hired gun Barr.
Similarly, Pelosi’s catching a lot of flack from people, me included, by not moving forward. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s amassing a dossier covering Russia and obstruction as well as emoluments and double-dealing that will make for a much stronger set of allegations and will take a long time to process in an impeachment, therefore dragging trump through the mud longer.
His report, and what he literally stated in direct language, was perfectly clear and to the point.
What he didn’t count on was the new AG being in Trump’s pocket so deeply that his work would be redacted, withheld, and reworded without being released fully. That’s not “failure” or cowardice on his part.
i just wish he could have said a clear statement like: “we would have indicted trump if he wasn’t president.” instead, he’s all “read between the lines”, and therefore the entire conservative establishment says, “aha! exoneration”
I’ll accept state prison! Heck I’ll accept county jail!
How is this statement not appropriate for Congress ?
I just realised he can’t have a cellmate. It would violate the prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment to be locked up with that yammering narcissist for more than 30 minutes at a time.
Realistically it ain’t gonna happen though.
The best case scenario is
- Trump is impeached and removed from office
- Trump’s mounting legal and financial problems catch up with him, forcing even his former supporters to realize he was a fraud from the start
- SDNY starts seizing his assets
- The stress contributes to Trump’s physical and mental decline
- Trump suffers a stroke rendering him incapable of speaking, Tweeting or caring for himself.
- Without the ability to pay for his custom orange paint or communicate with his full-time hairweaving crew his trademark appearance either falls or rises into ruin, depending on how you look at it.
- Trump spends the rest of his life alone, destitute and humiliated, forced to watch without comment as his legacy and businesses fall into further ruin and all his former associates write tell-all books.
I get the feeling that he would not answer that question publicly because that would mean that by the logic laid out in the report, it would be unfair.
Exactly. But if there were shenanigans in the redactions, he would be free to call that out.
See the Netflix documentary, “Evil Genius”. It’s very much as you say, every time you have to hear the lady talk for longer than 60 seconds.
How long until you-know-who jokingly/not jokingly tweets that Mueller should be executed for treason?
you got that right brainspore
No it was not - that’s the point.
Current Sustaining Fantasy:
Newly retired Mueller takes it easy for the first days after leaving his office for the last time.
Refuses to take phone calls. Turns his back on journalists who drive up to his house hoping for an interview.
Then he finds his first pension check in the mail. Smiles enigmatically. Gets out his phone and calls the number he put on speed dial a few weeks previous.
“Madame Speaker? In case you didn’t read between the lines, the report said 'Impeach the Mother Fucker.”
That was YOUR point, yes. It doesn’t mean it was correct or true at all.
It actually makes a lot of sense IMO. Impeachment is the mechanism that counters that.
