Robocop in review

Oh, come, on, “Nuke-em” wasn’t funny? The way violence is considered wholesome family fun in America?

Three of my favorite movies are the original Rollerball, Dawn of the Dead, and Robocop. All of them were exciting action movies with a satiric bite at the problems of 1970s/1980s America. Now all three have been remade in neutered form. What worries me is that younger people unfamiliar with the originals will see these remakes, be unimpressed, and never be exposed to the originals.

When Remakes have more killing but less gore

Maybe they can remake the tv series. That’s the Robocop I remember.

I think you’re on it. The original was beguiling (to a teenager), but flew the flag for corporate misanthrophy.

To boil that out of the new version is indeed doing a favour to commercialism.

We’ll just have to be more persuasive with our kids.
