I hope there will be enough economic pain to make a difference but I heard an analysis today pointing out that Russia currently has one of the lowest debt-to-GDP ratios in the world (under 20%, compared to many EU countries and the US that are around 100%) and therefore may be able to weather economic hardships for a long time through borrowing. If they can find oligarchs and friendly countries to borrow from, anyway. Let’s hope that China, for example, doesn’t help them out.

I do know a film involving a land mine, a Bosniak film called No Man’s Land. It’s a black comedy about two Bosniak soldiers who end up between their lines and the Bosnian Serb lines after they get caught up in cross fire. Two Bosnian Serb soldiers think one of the guys is dead, and put him on top of a bouncing mine so that when his comrades come to take his body back, they get killed. And then it turns out that the guy on the mine is not dead. One of the two Serb soldiers gets shot by the other Bosniak, so then it’s the guy on the mine, the Bosniak and the Serb… much hilarity ensues, especially when the UN forces get involved…
