Russia invades Ukraine

Yes.

It’s the policy I was referring to. There are always gaps and those who do not comply. That does not seem to be what we are talking about here.

He’s neither a born tyrant nor despot. He has simply been trained to think according to categories instilled to him by the KGB, an organisation which represents to him the ideal model, as he has declared more than once. It’s the reason why when someone disagrees with him, Putin demands that ‘we end this hysteria’, which is why he refuses to take part in electoral debates. Political discussion is simply not his element. He does not know how to dialogue. His style is that of the military-style monologue. In the army, the subordinate shuts up, he listens to his chief and his role is to pretend to approve it. In the army as in politics. Any insubordination can only lead to open war.

Point is that prisons are even more tightly controlled than the military. Especially when you tell your soldiers that you are going on an exercise.

Thankfully, this seems to run low over here, as far as I can tell.

MPs in parliament on Sunday gave a long, standing ovation when Mr Scholz praised Russian anti-war protesters for their bravery.

Some Brazilian citizens are reporting the same situation at the border.

A Brazilian who voluntereed to help people flee Ukraine said "The borders are partially open, but they are registering/ checking people, even so that there is no entry of unwanted people, let’s say, in the country ".

Point is, it is not even clear there WAS a policy with the Russian army - irrespective of its strictness of execution or the level of tightness of control.

(And if there was a policy, the policy may have been ‘bring your phones - we may need them’.)

So so far the russian bear is getting a thrashing in a querrilla/asymmetrical war being lead by Paddington Bear? The 2020’s are weird, wild and scary.

It’s day 4. Putin likely expected to have full control of Kharkiv at the very least by today so he’s making an extra push to break the defenders. Plus he has to show that he’s willing to go barbaric for the benefit of the DOA “peace talks” they’re holding today.

Whilst Zelensky has said he does not expect anything to come from the talks, let’s hope that is him clearly signalling he believes them to be merely delaying tactics and that he is fully intent on also taking advantage of the time to better prepare to repel wave two.

More to the point let’s hope his allies in the West ALL note this and do NOT pause their support (inflow of weapons etc.) while talks are going on. Pausing is what we might usually expect them to do, but let’s hope that this time they’ve got a bit more resolve.

The good news is that they’re currently alive and probably telling their captors all sorts of interesting ways of saying your mother in russian to them haha

I don’t think they will stop. For all that these talks are an obvious way for Putin to buy more time, the delay can help Ukraine too.
