Interestingly, 1 Samuel 8 says that kings are a bad idea, but people insisted on having them anyway.

They hide their hypocrisy with the flag and their “holy” book.
All “right thinking” (not a pun, left leaning folk do this too) people know as long as someone says the right words, they must be doing the right things. The words are never defined so the hearer assigns the meaning he/she/they like best.
“He invoked Jesus’ name, he must be a godly man.” “He hugged the flag, he must be a true patriot.”
Look\ at the foofooraw now and then generated over politicians seen NOT wearing a flag lapel pin. Like being found in 1967 China without Mao’s book or his portrait on your walls.
