San Francisco to McDonald's: stop the drug dealing outside

You are probably right here. I don’t think this should be a requirement.

In the specific case of this specific McDonalds, something has to change. Upper Haight has it’s share of street kids all over, but the worst and the highest concentration are definitely in front of McDonalds. At a certain point, calling the cops every day feels less like seeking protection from miscreants and more like externalizing security costs.

True. I don’t see a lot of street people inside the Whole Foods - occasionally using the bathroom or at the tables outside.

I guess my impression of the whole situation is colored by how the WF security seems to allow basically anyone to hang out at the tables, but quickly deals with anyone causing trouble. It’s a middle-ground that I respect.

This isn’t adjacent to their property - the benches and parking lot is their property.

And how many people “cause trouble” at the Whole Foods?

You mean their own parking lot and outdoor tables on their property?

I’m only there from time to time so I’m not equipped to answer in any comprehensive way. The people who I’ve seen escorted off the property were all singled out when they became aggressive after being asked to move to the sidewalk to smoke or asked not to panhandle.

Okay, okay, you obviously have seen the McD’s in question, I live 2K miles away.

Given that it is their parking lot, I wonder how they would stop fights and drug deals without at least as much threat-of-force as the cops have at their disposal…

They’ll probably encounter opposition from the current mickey mouse prison industrial complex.

Well, not recently. I live in Oakland though there is a McD’s at the end of my block that is having a shit fight with the neighborhood for trash related reasons. I looked at pictures in article online (but I’ve been up there too with the tourists).
