To my mind, what the different versions denote in this context is that every posting of the ten commandments on government property is specifically sectarian religion, impermissibly grating primacy not just to Christianity over all other religions, but one branch of Christianity over all others.

Years ago I saw an above the fold national newspaper article with a picture of one of those Ten Commandment judges proudly posing for the photograph next to his installation of the Ten Commandments, including the commandment about making no graven images. Flabbergasting.
