The author of the first two paragraphs clearly doesn’t understand how this product works. It cools the air by ADDING humidity to it; it only works if the hot air you’re dealing with is dry.

I didn’t know that the market for desktop swamp coolers was so big, but in the last month @boingboingshop has had like… eight or ten different ones.

I suspect the “wet, sticky mess” in the copy is supposed to be from your own body, not from the air. Though at a certain level of heat + ambient humidity there’s really no difference, so I think your point probably stands.
