Scientists: Don't call them shark "attacks" anymore. They are "encounters" that sometimes result in "bites."

“Shark bites” would have a much better chance at gaining traction. Have you ever heard “encounters with dogs that sometimes result in bites”?

I wish them luck though in their effort to de-vilify sharks. I’ll use shark bites from now on.

ETA: Never mind, that’s basically what the article quite reasonably proposes. That’s what I get for trusting a snide click-bait headline on Boing Boing before I RTFA.

So, if you actually read the article, they had a category called “shark attacks” of which over a third involved no injury at all. And now, they’re not doing that anymore, because it was dumb.

But sure, whoop it up.
