Scientists: Saying "fuck" and other bad words really can decrease your feeling of pain

When faced with a non-working computer prototype that had been made in France, and worked on for days by a team of techs, my mother said, “I can’t fix this machine. I can’t swear in French!”

She fixed it anyway.

I’m waiting for the followup study: Does hearing swear words, when you are not in pain, help you empathize with the swearer, and start to feel their pain as well? I just want you to hurt like I do, is all.

In the opposite direction, I used to date a somewhat-militant atheist, who would use religious swearwords (“Jesus!” etc.) when she was orgasming. Always amused me (and she hadn’t realised until I mentioned it to her).
