Seattle activists have established a 6-block autonomous zone around an abandoned police station

So you’d prefer people go do their peaceful mutual aid somewhere it is less accessible? Or should we stick to toothless tactics instead and beg permission to build a better world?

There are people who are involved in CHAZ talking about the Paris Commune and how it ended, and how to stop that from happening again.

There was a very weird movie about them not that long ago. It was shot in b/w and presented as if it were a TV documentary series with interviews of participants. La Commune (Paris 1871).

Strange but very interesting

That was a part of French History that I really didn’t know much about. My introduction to it came from a horror novel: Werewolf of Paris

There seems to be a misunderstanding that CHAZ is meant to be permanent. It isn’t.

Normally I would link directly to the book, but as Hakim Bey is a paedophile and I have previously questioned his personal motivations for wanting TAZs I won’t do that.

You can find it online through your preferred search engine if you do decide to read it.

Looks a heck of a lot more like Burning Man than Malheur.

I’m not sure what is best, but you putting your two ideas on my opinion is certainly not what I want.

But luckily unlike the people playing Hamsterdamn on CapHill I’m willing to stay in this civilized discourse to work it out.

What if you lived on CapHill and wanted none of this anarchy playland ? How would you help those people trapped on CapHill Freezone that didn’t vote for it ?

“We’ll see how long the CHAZ lasts.”

That depends on how quickly the police can infiltrate the area with enough numbers to start a riot to give themselves an excuse to charge in with batons of course.

So you have no solutions other than go back to the status quo (which has worked so well /s) and dismissing any alternatives. Got it.

You spend a lot of time telling me what I don’t have rather than what you do. Your solution which is your armed dudes wandering around CapHill.

Got it.

If this were happening in … let’s say Philidelphia … and let’s say you were all poor persons of color rather than a bunch of privileged cosplayers … you would be dead already.

This is nothing but more showing off that rich and privileged can do what they want in the US.

This is the same sentiment I’ve heard from others in the area. Things can get a little rowdy late at night but it’s a hell of an improvement over the constant explosions of tear gas and flag bangs.

The right has been quick to spin this as an “ISIS-style occupation by communist antifa anarchist LARPers”. These are the same people that praised the white supremacist y’all Queda occupation in Oregon.

Friends from outside of the area are expressing concern because of the inaccurate media coverage. I have to assure things are fine right now - it’s basically like a big block party with a lot of graffiti and that police are literally right outside the area.

Try these for starting points for my solutions

If I link to them too much it will be spamming. I don’t think any of them are perfect, but they are better than what we have now.

And not all of us are rich and privileged, we’re just choosing to not do the oppression olympics.

I love what is trying to happen there.

In my experience in reading and talking with people involved in civil wars (Xeni is not the only person to spend years of their life in Guate) you must expect a free-zone para-military force to arise that will oppose what you are doing and what the police are doing.

I may be a coward. But I also understand that the toxic nature of the work we have piled onto the police can’t be redistributed to other groups without it metastasizing the nature of those groups.

The work is like the broom from Fantasia.

I don’t have a solution. But I will read through these. Thank you for them.

At the risk of coming off as snarky: I live in the united states and I want none of this fascist hellscape. Maybe they can trade houses with me. I’d much rather have the temporary socialist autonomous zone where nobody has to sleep on the streets and nobody goes hungry to the best of society’s ability, but maybe I’m weird.
