Secret wine storage drawers built into stairway

Sounds great. Real question though because I don’t know much about wine. Is jostling bad for them?

I’m no expert, but I’ve been told it is. Here’s an explanation.

So it’s actually a thing, but probably more for red wine, and more for wine that is going to be laid down for months or years. For everyday wine that is going to be consumed in a few days or weeks, I wouldn’t worry.

If you’re in an earthquake zone, I’d drink it right now, just to be on the safe side. :wink:

Also the optimum temperature for long-term wine storage is 57°F, which is probably not going to be achieved in this kind of space. Cool woodworking, though!

If you remember the final scene of Arachnophobia (which is when the heroes have moved back to San Francisco after defeating the spiders) that’s definitely the main take-away lesson I learned from that movie.

Something I see in a lot of houses is that the under-stairs is a great place to cram in a half-bath. Boring, but super useful.
