The problem here is not that Corker is corrupt . . . it’s that his corruption is legal, protected, and encouraged. In fact, Corker is straight up rewarded for using his office to make money, lots of money. While I think Corker should be thrown out of office on this ear, the bigger issue is that making money from being involved in legislation should be illegal. Our current political system sadly encourages serious conflicts of interest instead of removing (as possible) conflicts of interest from the legislative process. Doh.

Just look at the endless spectacle of shittiness, stupid choices, and dysfunction that’s defined the Republicans since Obama’s election. They’re doubling down on bad decisions, because they’ve been entirely unwilling to face short-term pain, at the cost of making the long-term pain eventually coming into bigger and bigger problem.
