Senator Rand Paul severely beaten while mowing lawn, unable to return to DC; neighbor arrested

That’s fascinating rhetoric, but it really doesn’t hold up to analysis. You’re making a delightful strawman there, built of ad hominem 1984-type accusations and accusations of personal bias.

Depending on whether you discount Hamilton - Burr as it was technically an agreed upon duel - I’d go with Brooks - Sumner

Maybe he was just supervising the help. It is uncommon for the spear carriers get a role in the narrative.

From Darius Guppy’s Wikipedia page:

"Boris Johnson and News of the World journalist

“During a telephone call in 1990 he asked Boris Johnson (then a journalist at the Telegraph) to provide the home address of News of the World journalist Stuart Collier. Collier had been making enquiries into Guppy’s background, and in response Guppy wanted to send someone to physically assault Collier. The address was not provided and the attack never took place, but a tape of the conversation was leaked to the press in 1995.[13][14][15][16]”

The economic violence that the GOP is enacting, hurts real people. While physically attacking a senator is a direct insult to the whole concept of governance-the GOP has been insulting government with impunity for a very long time now. I don’t approve of this fight, but it’s obvious who threw the first punch.

That is some impressive victim blaming there. The guy’s lawyer reported that the cause was “a very regrettable dispute between two neighbors over a matter that most people would regard as trivial.”
It sounds to me like two millionaires got into a fight. You seem to be making a judgement as to who is at fault based on each person’s political beliefs. The court system will probably look at which one was trespassing during the attack, or fight, or dispute.

This is not a matter of “feeling sorry”. This is also not a matter of being happy inside that someone was subject to brutal violence.

I am solely addressing the public expression of the sentiment of “I’m glad this happened” or “he deserved it” or whatever.

It actually doesn’t matter what sort of jerk he is. The victim is irrelevant. What is not is the effect of my and your actions upon others.

If public sentiments of this nature make people less likely to vote Democrat or cause people to veer away from left-like causes by association, then you are choosing to prioritize the the satisfaction of seeing your enemy “get his” over the causes most of at least pretend to espouse. [Edited: Original sentence was reversed and thus contradicted everything in this post. sigh.]

Understandable, but somewhat discouraging from my point of view.

(Of course, all told, the difference that most of us make in any direction is pretty minimal. But from a self-knowledge sort of perspective, I think it’s useful to think about it.)

Senator Rand Paul severely beaten while mowing lawn.

In this case “while mowing lawn” could be a euphemism; was the guy’s wife involved?

He’s still for endless tax cuts and spending cuts to welfare programs that make people’s lives bearable. I’m not swayed by is so-called prinicpaled stance on foreign policy. At one point, he opposed overturning the 14th amendment - although he later came out in favor of a path to citizenship for the undocumented. Additionally, he was against the repeal and replace bills because they didn’t go far enough - he just wanted straight repeal and basically an end to medicaid expansion altogether.

He’s a garden variety isolationist, straight out of his father’s mold, if you ask me.

Seriously?

“…the origins of the drama cited stray yard clippings, newly planted saplings and unraked leaves.”

Sooo not buying that.

So you’re telling me that Rand Paul was attacked by White Middle Class Suburban Man?

(Edit: Yes, there is so much more where this came from.)
