You are all missing the point. She is wearing clothes above her station! She probably has a refrigerator and a cell phone too. She has obviously lied about everything, and probably scammed welfare too. /s. She is absolutely right. She will be crucified for being in congress, and the rationale that they choose is pretty much immaterial. From the point of view of the right she should not be there. Period.

This was all about attacking her authenticity, which when you can’t fight somebody on their issues you resort to attempting to tear down the person.

100%. It’s almost encouraging to hear Republicans retreat from “We are great, and the best choice” to “oh yeah, well, Democrats aren’t so great either.” See “LBJ was racist! (i.e. everyone is secretly racist! At least we’re honest about it!).” It’s like a man caught cheating who goes with “all men are pigs” rather than try to redeem himself. Or, well, a president that calls gross pussy-grabbing talk “locker room talk” as if to suggest ALL men are gross and rapey in their secret naked towel-snapping meeting place.

One of her main assets is the proletarian identity. Her opponents would like to prove that she is faking that.
Clearly, Scarry does not understand the principal of dressing professionally, whatever one’s circumstances. Clever people can do that on a tiny budget.

I like AOC and don’t give two shits what she wears, as long as she continues doing things like this.
As far as me, my own wardrobe consists of clothes that don’t itch. Politicians should worry more about what policies they are supporting and less about what their “image” is.

solution: everybody get pictures of every rich republican politician or ones that claim to be rich (Trump comes to mind) looking their worst clothes wise, and tweet “That sure doesn’t look like someone with money”

Instead of going into explanations about discount shops, personal budgets, or feeling the fabric, how about simply saying, “Stop using misogynistic ad hominem attacks. Let’s get back to the topic at hand. How quickly do you think we can restore the congressional Office of Technology Assessment? When do you think we can see Medicare for all implemented? How do you think we’ll be changing regulations so that the environment can begin to heal?”
